Do we do our students a disservice by pushing huge non-musical benefits to music education? I want to agree with Pertl, but I'd be hard pressed to find any academic discipline that doesn't involve training the same skill set. Does business education translate to better musical skills?

Music is important for its own sake, because it's a universal part of the human condition. I'm not sure that trumpeting (pun intended) music education as valuable for business is really being honest to ourselves and our music students.

You're preaching to the choir, Brian. How do we convince employers that lack of experience isn't a deal breaker? They don't seem to be looking for creative, focused, self-motivated employees right now.
