Chamber Music Reaches a New Low
Sure, you’ve seen string quartets. You’ve probably even seen saxophone quartets. But how ’bout this: a bass sax quartet? That’s right. Four low, rumbling, oversized, gritty, bass saxophones. In the same room nonetheless! That’s what you’ll witness in this video of the German/Dutch group Deep Schrott. This piece, called Cultural Value, was composed by Dirk Raulf.
While there are hundreds of thousands of great performances captured on tape, the music videos featured on TSM blog feature musical creations that are unusual, innovative, humorous, or otherwise purple. I don’t know how I feel about these guys. It’s definitely an interesting idea to throw four bass saxophones together, but it can be a bit grating to hear nothing but.
On the other hand, it’s a pretty cool song that fits in well with their group dynamic, and I can’t get over the inherent hilarity of the words “Deep Schrott Sax Foursome”. I can only hope they named their group as such with full intention of its phonetic innuendo, because that’s some sort of win right there.
